Looking for a quick escape from Columbus? Some of the Midwest’s best small towns, national parks, lake towns, and big-city museums sit within an easy drive of the outerbelt, no full Ohio road trip required. Most of these run under two hours each way. A few stretch longer, and they’re worth it.

The 25 trips below each list an approximate drive time from Columbus, plus where to eat and what to do once you park. The shortest is a 45-minute run out to ancient earthworks in Newark; the longest is a haul down to Mammoth Cave, the longest known cave system on earth.
