From Potions to Wands: What to Expect at Wands & Wizards Weekend

Updated: July 8, 2026

Every October, Fairfield County turns into a wizarding wonderland. For one weekend, Wands & Wizards Weekend takes over Lancaster and a handful of nearby towns with potions, wands, and general Harry Potter-adjacent mischief. Most recently it ran October 17–19, 2025; the 2026 dates haven’t been announced yet, so check Visit Fairfield County before you plan.

New to all this or a lifelong Potterhead, you’ll find your speed here. The whole thing is built to be easy to wander into, kids or no kids.

What’s the Buzz About Wands & Wizards Weekend?

It started in 2018 as a one-weekend bash the Fairfield County District Library threw for Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary, and it stuck. It’s now a three-day, county-wide celebration spanning Lancaster, Pickerington, Lithopolis, Carroll, and Baltimore.

This enchanting event takes place across Fairfield County, with local businesses and organizations getting into the magical spirit by hosting a variety of activities and specials. From potion sampling to wand-making, there’s no shortage of magical experiences to dive into.

A Spellbinding Lineup of Activities

One of the best things about Wands & Wizards Weekend is that it’s free to attend! While some activities may require tickets or have limited space, most of the magic is accessible to everyone. Here are some highlights you won’t want to miss:

  • Potion Drinks and Magical Treats
Local restaurants and cafes are getting creative with their menus, offering specially brewed potion drinks and mystical treats. Imagine sipping on a fizzy, colorful potion or munching on a magical pastry as you explore the county. Delicious!
  • Fantastical Creature Scavenger Hunt
Grab your wizarding hat and embark on a scavenger hunt to find hidden fantastical creatures around the county. This is a great activity for families and friends to enjoy together, testing your knowledge of magical beasts and honing your detective skills.
  • Wand-Making Classes
Ever wanted to craft your own wand? Now’s your chance! Enroll in a wand-making class and create a personalized magical tool. Whether you’re into sleek and simple designs or intricate carvings, you’ll walk away with a wand that’s truly your own.
  • Wizard Faire in Pickerington
Pickerington hosts its own Wizard Faire. Think a Renaissance fair that got its acceptance letter to Hogwarts: magical stalls, live performances, food, and games. Costumes very much encouraged. (Check the official schedule for this year’s date and spot, since the faire runs on its own timing.)

A Magical Weekend for All Ages

Don’t write this off as a kids-only event. There’s just as much here for grown Potterheads, from themed potion drinks at local restaurants and bars to costume contests across the county. Bring the family, bring friends, or come solo on your broomstick. There’s plenty to fill a day.

The schedule and lineup change every year, and it’s spread across the whole county rather than one street, so grab the current map and event list from Visit Fairfield County before you go. Lancaster’s only about 35 minutes from Columbus, which makes this an easy fall day trip.
