This Cemetery 5K Is Perfect For Your Spooky Season Bucket List

Looking for a spooktacular way to kick off the Halloween season? Look no further than the 6th annual Walking with the Dead 5k Fun Run & 1-Mile Walk at historic Green Lawn Cemetery!

Hosted by Columbus Rotary, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better, with a Guinness World Record attempt, ghost tours, and a whole lot of fun for the entire family.

It’s time to get a little spooky

Get ready to dress up as your most ghoulish self—because Green Lawn Cemetery is aiming to break the record for the most people dressed as ghosts in one place. Whether you’re a serious runner or just want to join in on the spooky fun, there’s something for everyone.

The race includes a 5k and a 1-mile walk option, and participants aged 21 and up will receive a drink ticket for a beer from Thunderwing Brewing at the event’s beer garden. Plus, there will be costume contests, including one for dogs, so don’t forget to dress up your furry friends!

But this isn’t just any ordinary race.

Green Lawn Cemetery is one of the largest and oldest cemeteries in Ohio, with a rich history dating back to 1848. It’s the final resting place of many notable Central Ohioans, including Ohio governors, Columbus mayors, artists, musicians, and more. The race course will guide you through the scenic paths of the cemetery, passing by beautiful monuments and memorials honoring these historic figures, and many other Ohioans.

Not in the mood to run? You can still participate in the Guinness World Record attempt for free or simply sign up for a ghost tour. The tours offer a unique way to explore Green Lawn Cemetery’s storied past and learn more about the famous (and infamous) residents who call it home.

The event supports a good cause, too.

Proceeds benefit the Columbus Rotary Foundation and Green Lawn Cemetery Association, helping maintain the cemetery’s grounds and monuments for future generations to enjoy.

With a beer garden, prizes, and ghostly fun for all ages, Walking with the Dead is the perfect way to enjoy a fall evening while giving back to one of Columbus’ most iconic landmarks. Don’t wait—grab your costume, register early, and get ready for a hauntingly good time!
