There’s nothing better on a hot summer day than rocking up to a gorgeous swimming hole and taking a dip.
We’ve got lots of gorgeous beaches in Ohio and plenty of pretty lakes, but what if you’re looking for something a little different? Luckily, this state has some truly gorgeous quarries that you can visit for a day of splashing around in clear waters.
Several quarries on this list also offer scuba diving and other water activities in addition to swimming. Let’s dive in, friends.
Nelson Ledges Quarry Park | Garrettsville
Nelson Ledges Quarry Park is a family-owned park that has a gorgeous quarry where visitors can swim, scuba, snorkel, and more. You can camp if you’d like to make a mini-getaway out of your visit and visitors can swim 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily as long as the temperature is over 70 degrees and the weather is sunny. The Quarry at Veterans’ Memorial Park | Genoa
This beautiful quarry in Genoa is spring-fed and the perfect place to splash around. The quarry is part of a 30-acre Veterans Memorial Park. Some parts of this swimming hole are 100 feet deep, but the swimming areas aThis spring-fed watering hole is part of the 30-acre Veterans Memorial Park area. While swimmers stick to the edge of the stone quarry, some parts run 100 feet deep. The Quarry will open for the season on June 2 (Thursday-Sunday) and admission is $4/adult and $3/child per day.
Centennial Quarry | Sylvania
Centennial Quarry is a deep-water swimming hole with diving platforms, water toys, a water teeter-totter, a log roller, and a wonderful sandy beach. The quarry will open for the season on Memorial Day weekend. The quarry will be open Wednesday-Sunday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and daily admission is $6.
Natural Springs Resort | New Paris
Looking for some family fun? Natural Springs Resort used to be a quarry, and now it’s a spring-fed lake that’s perfect for renting a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard. You can also just spend the day relaxing on the beach. You can check out the full list of amenities at Natural Springs Resort here.
The Peninsula Quarry | Peninsula
The Peninsula Quarry is the perfect spot if you’re on the hunt for a little adventure. In addition to swimming, you can also do a little cliff jumping or thrill jumping from the three springboards. Check the quarry’s Facebook page to stay up to date on openings.
White Star Quarry | Gibsonburg
White Star Quarry has white sand beaches, crystal clear water, and plenty of space to splash around and enjoy a hot summer day. Like many of the other quarries, you can also snorkel and scuba dive at White Star. A day at the sandy beach will only cost you $5 and if you’d like to make a whole weekend out of the experience, you can book a campsite at the campground across the street.
