If there’s one word I love hearing used in reference to a park it’s “whimsy”.
And there’s nothing more whimsical than the Storybook Trails located at parks throughout Ohio. The trails offer a whimsical story with a focus on nature, a free little library, and a free adventure for the whole family.
Ohio State Parks partnered with the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide story content for the trails and to raise awareness about Imagination Library.
While you’re out on the trail, you’ll see posted signs that tell the story and present challenges that will keep your little ones fully engaged during the hike. Each trail is roughly half a mile long and there are 5 Storybook Trails in Ohio.
The trails are located at Dillon State Park, Burr Oak State Park, Findley State Park, Great Seal State Park, John Bryan State Park, Mary Jane Thurston State Park, Maumee Bay State Park, Shawnee State Park, Sycamore State Park, Wingfoot Lake State Park, and right here in Central Ohio at Alum Creek State Park.
For more info about the Storybook Trails, you can follow Ohio State Parks on Facebook or visit the State Parks website here. Don’t forget to order your State Park Passport before you set out on these storybook adventures!
