The Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center is currently facing an overflow situation with more than 300 dogs under its care.
The shelter has issued a heartfelt plea to the community, seeking help in various forms to ensure these furry friends receive the care and attention they deserve.
In an effort to find forever homes for these dogs, the shelter is offering a special adoption rate.
Until April 30, all dogs aged six months and older can be adopted for just $18. This initiative not only helps alleviate the overcrowding but also gives many dogs a chance at a loving home they urgently need.
For those who might not be ready to commit to adoption, the shelter has introduced a unique “Sleepover” program.
This innovative approach allows families to host a shelter dog overnight, providing a much-needed break from the kennel environment. These sleepovers are not only fun and heartwarming but are also incredibly beneficial.
They offer critical insights into the dog’s behavior and personality in a home setting, information that is invaluable when finding a permanent home. The shelter ensures all necessary supplies are provided, making the process as seamless as possible for temporary foster families.
In addition to adopting and fostering, the shelter is in dire need of material support.
Donations of large and extra-large dog crates are urgently required, as well as soft and chewy treats and dry dog food of any brand or size. These supplies are crucial not only for the care of the dogs at the shelter but also support the shelter’s free Community Pet Pantry, which helps pet owners in need throughout the community.

Furthermore, recognizing the importance of reuniting lost pets with their owners, the shelter has waived all fees for reclaiming lost dogs this month. To prevent future losses, each reclaimed dog will be provided with a free microchip, a small gesture that can make a significant difference in keeping pets safe.
Visiting the shelter is easy since no appointment is needed and walk-ins are welcome.
Whether you’re looking to adopt, foster, or simply give a dog a night away from the shelter, all processes, including adoptions, foster-to-adopts, sleepovers, and lost dog reclaims can be completed the same day. This ease of access is part of the shelter’s commitment to making the process as smooth as possible for potential pet owners and helpers.

This is a call to all pet lovers in the community: if you’ve been considering adding a four-legged member to your family, there’s no better time than now. Your support can make a huge difference in the lives of many deserving dogs.
