There’s a simple kind of nostalgia baked into a Bob Ross painting session, and next month, you can experience it for yourself in Bexley.
The Bexley Public Library is hosting a Bob Ross Paint Along on Thursday, May 28 from 6 to 8 p.m., where participants will follow along with an episode of The Joy of Painting and create their own landscape inspired by Ross’ signature style. Supplies will be provided, and the program is limited to 40 participants, so registration is required.
Registration opens Friday, May 1 at 10 a.m., and can be completed online or by calling (614) 231-2793.
While this isn’t a formal art class, that’s kind of the point. According to the library, the event is designed as a relaxed “paint along” experience, with no instructor on site and no step-by-step teaching. It’s more about the process than the outcome.
Bob Ross, who became a cultural icon through his PBS series The Joy of Painting, introduced generations of viewers to a calm, encouraging approach to creativity. His gentle reminders that there are no mistakes, only “happy accidents,” helped make painting feel accessible to just about anyone, regardless of experience level.
The program will take place while construction continues at the library’s main entrance. The library remains open, with temporary access through a ramp in the southeast alley leading to the dock entrance. Parking is available in the lot with adjusted entry via Euclaire Avenue, though space may be limited.
Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early and consider nearby street parking.
For anyone looking for a low-stress creative night out, this one leans fully into the Bob Ross spirit. For more info, head over to bexleylibrary.org.
