Calling all hobbits, elves, wizards, and rangers—Middle-earth is coming to Waynesville on Saturday, November 16! From noon to 8 p.m., downtown Waynesville will transform into Tolkien’s world, packed with events worthy of a journey to Mount Doom. Grab your cloak, don your pointy ears, and prepare for a magical day filled with epic battles, ring-hunting, and maybe even a second breakfast.
Event Highlights
Gandalf Dance-Off
Yes, you read that right. Do you have the moves to rival a wizard? Show off your best wizard-worthy dance moves in the Gandalf Dance Off. The ultimate victor will walk away with two tickets to the Ohio Renaissance Festival 2025! So dust off your best Gandalf impression and get ready to boogie like it’s Second Age.
Costume Contest
Unleash your inner elf, dwarf, or hobbit in the costume contest! Prizes include Renaissance Festival tickets, gift cards to local favorites like Stone House Tavern and Mami Fina’s, plus a special prize for the little Shirelings. This is your chance to bring your LOTR cosplay dreams to life, whether you’re more “Eowyn of Rohan” or “Gollum’s lost cousin.”
The One Ring Scavenger Hunt
Think you can resist the call of the One Ring? Local shops in Waynesville will hide the most coveted ring in Middle-earth, and it’s up to you to find it. Follow the clues, use your hobbit sense, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll be the one to claim the Precious.
Orc Raid by the Tribe of Nartum Kaal
Brace yourself for an orc raid by the Tribe of Nartum Kaal. Don’t worry—they’re not coming for the Shire. This local LARP group will put on a show, reminding us all why hobbits prefer their quiet, peaceful hills.
Hobbit Hoedown & Tea Party with LARP Shire
Gather ‘round, hobbits! There’s a hoedown and tea party just for you. Perfect for all ages, this gathering promises wholesome, Hobbiton-style fun, complete with dancing, mingling, and perhaps a snack (or three)
Battle Scene & Archery Contest
Ever wanted to test your bow skills like Legolas? Try your hand at the archery contest and feel like a true member of the Fellowship. Or, watch an intense battle scene brought to life by local LARP groups. Don’t worry, no actual hobbits will be harmed.
Middle-earth Themed Shops & Quest
Waynesville’s shops will each adopt a land of Middle-earth, from Rivendell to Rohan, and “Roll Your Destiny” has created an interactive LOTR Quest for adventurers of all ages. Gather clues, explore, and complete your quest—you might even make it back to the Shire by sundown.
Specialty Cocktails, Face Painting & More
Stop by local restaurants for specialty cocktails inspired by Tolkien’s world (think: “Ent Draught” or “Gimli’s Ale”) and let the little ones get their faces painted by Mrs. Sunflowers. And for those who just want to see fire-dancers, the Sage Fire Dance Troupe will light up the night with their performance.
The Schedule of Events
Whether you’re here to rule them all or just along for the adventure, Waynesville’s Lord of the Rings Festival will be the place to be this weekend.
