Central Ohio’s Quirkiest Park Is Jam Packed With Interactive Art

If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly outing that combines art, nature, and a bit of local history, Boardman Arts Park in Delaware should be on your list.

What began as a volunteer-led project to transform an empty green space in 2017 has blossomed into a vibrant community hub filled with outdoor art, events, and a welcoming vibe that invites creativity and exploration.

A Space Filled with Art and Imagination

Boardman Arts Park is a 2.2-acre wonderland of unique, colorful art installations perfect for all ages. As you wander through, you’ll find everything from a wildflower maze called the A-Mazing Garden to Dripping 88, a baby grand piano turned water feature.

You can even meet some of the “Muffler People” sculptures scattered around, like Joey & His Dog and Tom—quirky characters made from recycled car parts that add a dash of whimsy to the park.

For an especially magical experience, head to the Imagination Space through the Winter Street gate, where interactive art invites you to “Wander in Wonder.” Here, kids and adults alike can climb on Picket the Owl, a giant wooden owl, or sit atop Princess, a unicorn sculpture crafted from recycled tires. It’s art that’s meant to be touched, climbed, and enjoyed!

Events and Activities for Everyone

Boardman Arts Park is also known for its lineup of community-focused events. Each year, they host unique gatherings like the Delaware County Beer & Wine Festival, the CREATE! Art Event, and the Halloween-themed Ghost Walk. Beyond that, the park is a go-to spot for art classes, yoga sessions, concerts, and more, making it a multi-use space that’s always buzzing with activity. Check their event calendar for upcoming events and plan a trip to join in the fun!

A Piece of Delaware’s History

The park has roots that run deep in Delaware’s history. It’s located on the former site of the West Boardman Elementary School, which served local students from 1904 until it was demolished in 1979. Today, you can even spot original bricks from the school along the park’s pathways, keeping a little piece of the past alive in this creatively transformed space.
