Columbus Symphony Is Playing A Concert Inside Ash Cave This Summer

File this under: summer plans that feel like a Studio Ghibli movie.

On Sunday, June 15, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra is taking over Ash Cave for a one-of-a-kind concert experience in the middle of Hocking Hills. Picture sweeping classical music bouncing off sandstone walls, trees swaying above, and the whole thing echoing through one of Ohio’s most breathtaking natural landmarks. Yeah, it’s that good.

This marks the fourth year the symphony has performed at Ash Cave, and if past years are any indication, tickets won’t last long. Instead of individual seats, you’ll snag a general admission parking pass for one car, up to eight guests. Pack some snacks, fold up some chairs, and make it your most serene Sunday of the summer. (Or treat Dad, it is Father’s Day weekend after all.)

Want to skip the scramble for a good spot? VIP tickets are available for $20 per person and include reserved chair seating right up front.

Ash Cave is one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world — giant overhang, soft trails, misty waterfalls. It’s the largest recess cave in Ohio and was once used by Indigenous peoples for gatherings and shelter. When settlers arrived, they found massive piles of ash (hence the name), likely left from centuries of campfires.

Now part of Hocking Hills State Park, the cave is a popular stop for hikers and nature lovers alike. It’s incredibly accessible. A half-mile paved trail takes you straight to the cave, so it’s easy to bring the whole crew.
