The Bearded Baker is temporarily closed after the Columbus bakery was broken into, leaving the team dealing with stolen property and damage to the shop.
The bakery shared the news on Instagram a couple of days ago, telling customers that the team initially hoped the incident had resulted in nothing more than a broken window.
“Unfortunately last night, our bakery was broken into. We were hopeful that this was just a broken window, but in fact it was more,” the bakery wrote.
The break-in resulted in stolen property as well as additional damage that needs to be repaired before the bakery can reopen. The Bearded Baker, located at 2918 E. Main Street, said some equipment will also need to be replaced.
For now, there’s no set reopening date. The Bearded Baker makes its sweets and soups from scratch, so replacing equipment and getting everything back in working order could take some time.
“Due to the nature of this, we do not have a set in stone reopening date at this time,” the bakery wrote. “We are hoping that this will be a quick fix and to be back open in a few days, but we do not want to get our community members’ hopes up.”
The bakery has stopped taking additional orders for this week and next week, and customers who had standing orders were asked to reach out to make arrangements if they haven’t already.
The team apologized to customers who had plans to visit in the coming days, but said it will continue sharing updates as it knows more.
“We love and appreciate all of your understanding as we navigate this,” the bakery wrote.
The Bearded Baker also thanked a member of the community who alerted the team to the break-in, saying it was “so grateful” to have been made aware of what had happened.
