Sharpen your arrows, gather your flower crowns, and prepare thyself. Archery Fest is returning to Prairie Oaks Metro Park, and it’s giving full-on medieval magic.
On Saturday, May 10 from 12–3 p.m., the Darby Bend Lakes area of the park transforms into a realm of friendly combat, DIY crafts, and noble titles. And yes, it’s totally free to attend.
This whimsical fest first debuted in 2024 with around 200 would-be warriors showing up to battle boredom and prove their aim was true. From plastic axe throwing to atlatl spear tossing (if you know, you know), the day was packed with activities—and 2025 is shaping up to be even bigger.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Try It! Archery – Perfect for beginners and folks who just want to pretend they’re in The Hunger Games for a few minutes.
- Archery Tournaments – One for kids (8–15) and one for adults. Just register when you arrive. Champions will receive a literal crown and a prize bow, because obviously.
- Plastic Axe Throwing & Atlatl – Because chucking things safely is deeply satisfying.
- DIY Activities – Flower crowns, arrow quivers, family crests, and more. Your Ren Faire outfit will thank you.
- The King & Queen – Join the royal court for a knighting ceremony and possibly a quick bounce in the Queen’s inflatable castle. Yes, you read that right.
- Food Trucks – A Cut Above Schnitzel & More returns with crispy delights, and Cheesecake Perfection is tagging in with the sweets.
It’s all happening at one of the prettiest spots in the metro parks system, so whether you’re a serious archer or just want to cosplay as one for an afternoon, Archery Fest is a great excuse to head outside and get a little weird (in the best way).
See you on the (grassy) battlefield.
