ShadowBox Live founder and “rock star” Stev Guyer has died.
The theatre troupe announced his passing on Facebook this afternoon.
“We are saddened to announce the passing of our founder, Stev Guyer. He passed Thursday morning (March 29) after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Not surprisingly, he was a rock star until the very end,” the post said.
Guyer founded ShadowBox Live in 1988 and it has been growing ever since. He was and will remain a respected member of the central Ohio arts and business communities.
Born in Georgia, Guyer moved to Hamilton, Oh with his family in the 1950s. By a young age, he knew he was meant for the stage.
“I knew I was going to be a musician or performer,” Guyer told The Dispatch in 2013. “Singing is an extraordinary release that I could feel even as a 6-year-old. You have the opportunity to express your soul.”
He wore many hats in his lifetime, working a variety of jobs from landscaping to selling insurance. But he came into his own once he started acting, and his talents only grew once he launched ShadowBox Live.
A public memorial service will be announced by ShadowBox Live soon, but in the meantime, they are asking that people who would like to send their condolences do so by writing letters to Shadowbox Live’s offices at 503 S Front, STE 260, Columbus, OH 43215 or donating to the S. Innovation Fund.
