Sometimes, you just need to shake things up a little.
We live in stressful times. It’s easy to get into the habit of just putting your head down, getting through work, and coming home for a nap. But every now and then, it’s time to break yourself out of the funk.
If you’ve been feeling like you need to do something a little different, you’re not alone. We’ve put together a fantastic list of ideas that will help push you out of your comfort zone. It’s time to spice things up, Columbus!
Go zip lining
Nothing wakes you up faster than zooming down a line through the forest. There are some really cool places to go zip lining around Columbus and Central Ohio, and all of them have their perks. At ZipZone Outdoor Adventures, you can fly through the tree canopy on a guided tour. If you visit before the end of 2021, you’ll also have photos to remember the experience courtesy of your Canopy Tour guide. Zip Zone Adventure is located at 7925 N High Street, Columbus, OH 43235.
If you’re up for more of a road trip, you can also head down to Hocking Hills Canopy Tours. There, you’ll get a one-of-a-kind view of Ohio’s most beautiful region. They have a variety of tour options that range in length and intensity. Hocking Hills Canopy is located at 10714 Jackson Street, Rockbridge, OH 43149.
Spend some time with Mother Nature
Working from home for the last couple of years has really made me realize just how important getting out into nature can be. Luckily, we’ve got some gorgeous places nearby perfect for a day of self-reflection and exploration. You can check out some local waterfalls, take the kids to a beautiful playground, take advantage of some scenic bike trails, or just head out to explore some natural, hidden gems. Seriously, we’ve got it all. Just get out there, take a deep breath, and let your mind relax.
Cave yoga
If taking to the skies is a little too far out of your comfort zone, maybe retreating underground is the way to go. Cave yoga lets you practice your downward dog 75-feet underground at Olentangy Caverns. It’s recommended that attendees bring an old beach towel to keep yoga mats clean, a hand towel in case there are a few drips in the cave, and tennis shoes.
Focus on balance and go for a stand up paddle board adventure.
A balanced life is a happy life, and there’s no better way to experience true balance than by taking a paddle board adventure. There are a few places around the city where you can rent stand up paddle boards. One of the most scenic has to be Windrose Outdoor, who offers rentals, guided tours, and lessons along the Scioto River with fantastic views of downtown Columbus. Once you book your experience, you’ll meet at Bicentennial Park, located at 233 S. Civic Center Dr.
Have a DIY night at Makers Social
Sometimes, the only way to get inspiration is to get your hands a little dirty. At Makers Social, you can meet up with friends or a date to enjoy some delicious cocktails while you create something fantastic. At this DIY bar, you can make everything from birdhouses to jewelry. Makers Social provides all of the tools you’ll need, as well as a fabulous work space. You’ll find the bar at 461 W Rich St, Columbus, OH 43215.
Head out on the water
We talked about getting a unique view of Hocking Hills above in the ziplining section, but we’d be remiss not to mention that you can also view the region from the water. Float your way through one of the most beautiful spots in Ohio by going tubing down the Hocking River. There are some requirements for this activity, but you can get all of the details here.
