If your summer isn’t complete without cozying up on a picnic blanket under the stars, soaking in some stellar live theater, then mark your calendars, friend. Actors’ Theatre of Columbus just dropped their 2025 outdoor season lineup.
The big reveal happened at a sneak preview party last weekend at the Germania Singing & Sport Society, where theater fans got the inside scoop on the upcoming performances. From classic Shakespeare to fresh feminist takes, this lineup has a little something for everyone. Here’s what you can look forward to at the Schiller Park Amphitheatre next summer:
EMMA
By Kate Hamill, adapted from the novel by Jane Austen
May 22 – June 15 (Thurs-Sun)
Directed by Robyn Rae Stype
Jane Austen’s beloved matchmaking queen gets a feminist makeover in Kate Hamill’s wildly funny adaptation. Emma is clever, confident, and maybe a bit too meddlesome as she plays Cupid for everyone around her—except herself, of course. Expect plenty of wit, charm, and some modern sass in this romantic comedy.
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
By William Shakespeare
June 19 – July 13 (Thurs-Sun)
Directed by Philip J. Hickman, with Assistant Direction by Adrianna Quiñones
Schiller Park is no stranger to Shakespeare’s magic, and this season, we’re getting one of his most iconic works. With lovers, mischievous fairies, and a ragtag group of amateur actors causing chaos in the woods, A Midsummer Night’s Dream promises laughter, whimsy, and all the classic Shakespearean drama you could ask for.
SHANE
By Karen Zacarías, adapted from the novel by Jack Schaefer
July 17 – August 10 (Thurs-Sun)
Directed by Chris Leyva
Giddy-up, because the American West is coming to German Village. This stage adaptation of the classic novel Shane tells the story of a mysterious, quiet hero who steps in to protect a family from ruthless ranchers. Expect high stakes, heartfelt moments, and a vivid picture of frontier life in this iconic tale of resilience and courage.
SHE KILLS MONSTERS
By Qui Nguyen
August 14 – August 31 (Thurs-Sun)
Directed by Dr. Aviva Neff
Geek out with this hilarious and heartwarming play about Agnes, a young woman who dives headfirst into her late sister’s world of Dungeons & Dragons. Filled with epic battles, quirky characters, and a healthy dose of nostalgia, this Young Adventurers version of She Kills Monsters is a family-friendly journey through fantasy, comedy, and sisterly love.
