Well, it’s with all of us, because Star Wars day is rapidly approaching. May The Fourth has turned into quite the nerdy holiday, celebrating all of our favorite things from a galaxy far, far away. If you’re looking to kick off your weekend with a Star Wars celebration, you have plenty to chose from.
What: 16-Bit Bar+Arcade is hosting both a May The Fourth and Revenge of the Fifth celebration, with Star Wars fun all weekend long. On Friday, there will be a Star Wars video game tournament. There are only 32 slots available, so if you want to compete for a Darth Vader Piñata full of swag, be sure to arrive at 7 p.m. to sign up. On Saturday, the bar will be showing an epic movie marathon, showing the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, and The Force Awakens.

What: If you haven’t already bought your tickets for COSI After Dark’s May the 4th event, you’d better get on it! It’s one of the most popular events of the year and it will sell out. The 21+ celebration will let you learn about the science of Star Wars with hands-on activities including blasters and lightsabers, droids, levitation and antigravity, The Force, real-life aliens with animals from COSI’s Wild Experience, and more.

What: One of the cities best-kept secrets is hosting a special, May The 4th show. For a $5 cover, you can check out performances by Fisher Cast, Lackluster, Curse of Cassandra, and Relic. The event is BYOB and all Jedi, Padawan, and “reasonably well-behaved Sith” are welcome.

What: Looking for something a little different this May 4th? Head to Bossy Grrls Pin Up Joint for a burlesque tribute to Star Wars featuring Astrea Traction, Bombfox Sasha, Cecil Haymen, Crystal Swarovski, Dimples Diamond, Eden Ivy, Lakota Shahkar, Mary St Jaymes, Nikki Stone, Vixie Noir, Velour Dejour, and host Griffin Browning.

What: For a more family-friendly atmosphere, head to Skate Zone 71. The skating party will have you feeling the force on the rink, with half-priced admission for those arriving in Star Wars costumes or attire. Regular admission is $9 with a $4 skate rental.

What: Meet Chewbacca at the door of The Hills Downtown Market to kick off your May the Fourth with a delicious wine tasting. Upon arrival, you will receive 10 drink tickets to help you choose whether you’re on the light side or the dark side! Costumes are heavily encouraged and there will be Star Wars themed foods in plenty. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

What: The Prairie Township Community Center is hosting an epic, family-friendly Star Wars night. You can learn to use the force through fun mental and physical activities, make your own lightsaber, and play games in the gym. The event is free for the whole family and costumes are encouraged. You must be pre-registered for the event, so don’t wait until the last minute!
When: May 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

What: Hosted by Rogue Squadron Podcast, this is one of the biggest Star Wars celebrations in the city. Get your paws on a custom, Wolf’s Ridge Star Wars beer, the “Lando System” Hazy Pale Ale, “Centennial Falcon” double dry-hopped session IPA, and “Yub Nub” coffee cinnamon Imperial Russian stout. Attractions at the event include Star Wars trivia, Lightsaber dueling, Star Wars Battlefront II on console, a costume contest, Star Wars board game demos, and more.

What: Head to CMA for an evening of Star Wars themed cocktails and cantina music. You can stroll through the CMA exhibition, The Force of Fandom, and get hands-on at various activities throughout the exhibit. Tickets are $10 ($5 for CMA members) and the price includes admission to the exhibitions, a drink ticket, and light snacks. Costumes are encouraged.
