Avast ye, landlubbers and seafarers! Buckeye Lake is setting the sails for its inaugural Pirate Festival, and you’re invited to join the crew!
Mark your calendars for May 17-18, 2024, because it’s about to get shipshape with pirates, mermaids, and even steampunk enthusiasts making port at this swashbuckling extravaganza.
Treasure and More at Pirate Fest
Forget walking the plank; walk into a world of pirate fun instead at the Pirate Marketplace, kicking off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 PM on May 17 at the Harbor Community Center—newly christened as “Port Royal” for the fest. Expect to rub shoulders with local dignitaries, celebrities, and perhaps a famous pirate or two!
Post-ceremony, the air will fill with tunes from local favorite pirate singer, Sparky Brewer. Dance or jig – your choice! And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, the Northern Exposure Landship (billed as the “World’s Tallest ArrVee”) will be parked and open for explorers looking to score pirate gear and treasures.
Hunt for Hidden Treasures
On May 18, treasure awaits as you embark on the Treasure Hunts by Land and Sea. With 40 local businesses doling out chests filled with loot valued at $150 or more, who needs a treasure island when you have Buckeye Lake? Grab a map at Port Royal and set off on your quest by boat or on foot, discovering the local gems and enjoying special entertainment along the way.
Set Sail on Themed Treasure Hunt Tours
Looking for a bit more structure to your pillaging? Opt-in for one of the 13 themed Treasure Hunt Tours. Whether you’re navigating the waters of Buckeye Lake on a pontoon or joining the Steampunk Whistle Stop Tour, there’s a treasure trail tailored for every type of adventurer.
A Festival With a Cause
Besides offering free family fun, a portion of the marketplace proceeds will go to the non-profit Harbor Community Center. So, not only are you having a blast, but you’re also doing good – a pirate’s life indeed!
Why You Can’t Miss It
Where else can you shop, dine with a mermaid, or compete for treasure while dressed as your favorite sea rogue? The Buckeye Lake Pirate Festival promises to be a land (and sea) of fun for families, friends, and freebooters of all ages.
So hoist your flags, don your eye patches, and set course for Buckeye Lake this May. And remember, come for the treasure, stay for the fun!
