This weekend, O’Huids Gaelic Pub is trading its Irish charm for tropical allure as it undergoes a thrilling Tiki Takeover, courtesy of Shipwreck Shirley’s.
For a few magical days, this beloved pub will transform into a vibrant tiki bar, reviving the spirit and flavors of the legendary Kahiki restaurant and bar. If you’re a fan of exotic cocktails, lively music, and a fun, festive atmosphere, this is one event you won’t want to miss!

From June 21 to 23, prepare to be whisked away to a Polynesian paradise right in the heart of Lancaster. The festivities kick off on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and continue on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This isn’t just a simple decor change; it’s a full-scale transformation.
Thanks to local vendors and Shipwreck Shirley’s extensive tiki supply, O’Huids will be decked out with authentic tiki masks, tiki heads, and other tropical decorations that promise to transport you to an island getaway.

The real stars of the show, however, are the cocktails.
Sip on homemade Mai Tais, Portlights, Suffering Bastards, and Captain’s Grogs, all made from authentic Kahiki recipes by renowned tiki bartenders. Each drink is a journey back in time, offering a taste of the iconic Kahiki’s famous concoctions.

And don’t worry, you won’t be sipping your drinks in silence. Live DJs will be spinning tropical beats, setting the perfect mood for a weekend of island vibes and fun.
Adding to the experience are guest bartenders who will bring their unique flair to the mix, promising an unforgettable tiki experience. On Saturday, you can also enjoy performances by the Mohana Dancers, who will bring the spirit of Polynesian dance to life.
The History of Kahiki
The Kahiki Supper Club was a true Columbus icon. Opened in 1961, the Kahiki was an immersive experience that transported guests to a Polynesian paradise.
With its grand moai entrance, thatched roofs, indoor waterfalls, and tropical birds, the Kahiki was a feast for the senses and quickly became a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike. It was famous for its exotic cocktails, such as the Smoking Eruption and Mystery Drink, which were served in elaborately decorated mugs and often came with a theatrical presentation.

Although the Kahiki closed its doors in 2000, its influence on Columbus’s culinary and cultural landscape remains profound. The Kahiki’s spirit lives on through events like the Tiki Takeover, which celebrate its legacy and bring a touch of its magic to a new generation.
For those interested in a bit of history, there will even be a Kahiki presentation at the Fairfield County District Library on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the fascinating history behind the Kahiki and its lasting impact on tiki culture.
Bottoms Up!

The tiki takeover is part of the Bottoms Up event, the nation’s first-ever midcentury barware show. It’s happening here, in the heart of Ohio, because Ohio is a state that’s historically significant as a major producer of midcentury glassware.
Sparked by the revival of Gay Fad Studios and growing interest in midcentury barware, this event provides a real experience from Ohio’s Glass Town. It’s a perfect chance to score some unique barware and dive deep into midcentury cocktail culture.
Gay Fad Studios was founded by Fran Taylor in Detroit, Michigan in 1939 before she relocated the business to Lancaster in 1945. The studio painted glassware by hand, with various designs.
Husbands David and Jason Annecy, owners of the new Gay Fad Studios, revitalized the studio in 2022 and hope to spread Fran’s legacy to those who have never heard it and continue to make art more accessible to the community.
Attendees can also take a variety of classes over the weekend that span ceramics, glassblowing, garnishes, cocktail and mocktails, ice-cutting, and more! Sign up before they sell out! Tickets required.
So, grab your friends, put on your best tropical attire, and head over to Fairfield County for a weekend of nostalgic fun.
Whether you’re there for the drinks, the music, or just the vibe, Bottoms Up promises a midcentury escape that doesn’t require a time machine.
Cheers to a weekend of tropical delights and unforgettable memories! To learn more about the Bottoms Up event, head over to visitfairfieldcounty.org/bottoms-up.
