Nothing says spring quite like delicious, juicy strawberries. Luckily, we know just the spot to pick them.
Hann Farms is located just outside of I-270 at 4600 Lockbourne Rd. It’s just under a 20-minute drive from the center of Columbus.
The family farm and market will have a field full of ruby-red strawberries ripe for the picking, starting in mid-May and running through June.
First stop: the farm market.
When you turn off of Lockbourne Road, you’ll pull into a parking lot right outside of the farm market. Make a pitstop inside so you can pick up a bag to collect all the strawberries your heart desires. They’ve got other seasonal fruits and veggies available inside the market. You can also find shelves with homemade Miller Jellies and Noodles.
You’ll come back to the market to pay for your pickins. U-Pick strawberries are $1.99/pound. Keep it simple. Make sure you have cash on hand. Hann Farms doesn’t accept credit or debit cards.
Now that you’ve got the gear, get out to the strawberry field.
Once you’re ready to go, hop back in the car and go down the driveway. You’ll pull off into a grassy parking area on the left. When your car is parked you can jump right over to the strawberry field.
Just go out and start looking for bright red beauties. There’s a bit of a method to the madness. The key to picking strawberries is by pinching off the stem, not pulling the berry off the plant or removing the green cap. By leaving the green stuff on the berry, your strawberries will last longer.
Be sure to check the weather forecast before you head out to Hann Farms.
It can get pretty hot out in the field. Pack water bottles, sunscreen, shades, and sun hats when you go to pick your strawberries.
It’s time to load up the car!
Hann Farms will be open Monday-Saturday from 10 p.m.-6 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. once the berries are ripe. You can stay up to date on all their U-Pick info by visiting their website!
