The Newest Metro Park Has A 25-Foot Waterfall And It Opens Later This Month

We’re pretty spoiled here in Columbus by our fantastic Metro Parks.

Not only do they showcase the natural beauty of Central Ohio, but they also offer some incredible programming and services for our community. The newest park to the Metro Parks system is one-of-a-kind.

Visitors aren’t permitted to the park just yet, but you won’t have to wait much longer. The first phase of Quarry Trails Metro Park will open on November 30. The new park will offer hiking, biking, picnicking, fishing, climbing, a dog park, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

The 600-acre site will be home to a mix of public and private space, with unique mixed-use properties being developed by Thrive Companies while 180-acres is being transformed into the park.

I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek of the property over the summer and I’m not overhyping in the slightest when I say it’s going to exceed all of your expectations.

The tall quarry walls make for stunning vistas throughout the space. You’ll certainly feel a lot further away from downtown Columbus than 15 minutes.

On the lakes, visitors will find a floating dock where they can stroll along on top of the water, fish, or just enjoy nature.

Part of the initial 64 acres that will open this fall, the single-track mountain biking trails offer ramps, jumps, and other built-in obstacles.

Near the mountain biking area, there will be picnic areas, overlook trails, a children’s area, and parking.

Stones from the quarry itself have been used throughout the park, serving as both decor and construction materials. Massive stone slabs make up the stunning staircase that leads to the base of the waterfall.

Speaking of the waterfall, just take a look at this beauty.

The 25-foot waterfall can be viewed from above at an observation platform or you can head down to the water via two sets of stairs. Visitors will be able to splash around at the base of the falls, which are genuinely stunning.

Located near the intersection of Dublin and Trabue Roads, the park is easily accessible from Downtown Columbus. It’s sure to become a top destination for both residents and visitors and frankly, it’s the development I’m most excited about this year.
