5 Plant-Based Restaurants Around Columbus Perfect For The First-Time Vegan

Trying new things can be a little scary.

Making the decision to give up animal products in your diet can certainly be overwhelming at first. But Columbus makes it really easy to test the waters. If you’ve never had vegan food before but you’re looking to make the shift to a plant-based diet, we’ve got some suggestions.

It doesn’t matter if you’re just adding one or two days to your week without animal products like “Meatless Mondays” or if you’re fully jumping aboard the Vegan train. There are some truly delicious restaurants around the city that will make you throw away every preconceived notion you’ve ever had about plant-based cuisine.

Village Taco

Village Taco has some of the best eats in Columbus. Any excuse to treat every day like Taco Tuesday is good enough for me, but these tacos are the real deal. They’ve got so many options and the menu has all kinds of plant-based goodies including burgers, burritos, corndogs, and more. Read our review here.

Item to try: Duh, the answer is tacos. They have a variety of “meat” options but honestly, you can’t go wrong.
Location: 1297 Parsons Ave, Columbus, OH 43206

Seitan’s Realm

via Facebook
Seitan’s Realm started as a badass food truck but they’ve officially outgrown the truck and moved into a brick-and-mortar spot in Clintonville. Their menu includes a variety of sandwiches and you can pair your favorite with some loaded curly fries. Follow Seitan’s Realm on Instagram to see where their food truck will be popping up and get in on this action.

Item to try: I mentioned the sandwiches above, but to be more specific… get the reuben.
Location: 3496 N High St, Columbus, OH 43214

Willowbeez SoulVeg

via Facebook
Willowbeez SoulVeg will take over the spot at the market formerly occupied by Pistacia Vera. They’ll be serving up their signature dishes, including their GrabCake sliders, their plant-based po’boy, and their vegan mac n’ cheese when they open in the spring.

Item to try: Everything they cook up in the kitchen at Willowbeez SoulVeg is delicious, but it would be an absolute crime to eat there and not get some cornbread to accompany your meal. I promise, you won’t regret adding it to your order.
Location: Headed soon to North Market, 59 Spruce St, Columbus, OH 43215

Two Dollar HQ

Good books and great food come together at this vegan eatery on Parsons Ave. You can swing by and grab something to read while you munch on brunch, sandwiches, wraps, and more. If you are feeling a little DIY, you can even pick up the Two Dollar Radio Guide to Vegan Cooking and make something yummy for yourself.

Item to try: The sandwiches at Two Dollar HQ are served on vegan brioche buns from Happy Little Treats and you’ll fall in love.
Location: 1124 Parsons Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43206

Woodhouse Vegan

Woodhouse Vegan is located over in Italian Village and if you’re craving nachos, there’s no place better to get your fix. And when I say no better, I mean plant-based or not. Read our review here.

Item to try: The OG Nachos are corn chips covered in nacho cheese, chipotle black beans, corn guacamole, pico de gallo, cashew sour cream, pickled red onions, scallions, and fresh jalapeño. They’re freaking incredible.
Location: 851 N 4th St, Columbus, OH 43215
