North Market Downtown is about to welcome a new vendor that will thrill Columbus foodies and home chefs alike.
Macelleria North Market Butchery, the latest venture by esteemed local butcher Phillip Clary, is gearing up to open its doors just after Labor Day, bringing top-tier fresh meats to the heart of the city.
Phillip Clary, who was recently recognized as one of Columbus Monthly’s 2023 Tastemakers, is no stranger to the art of butchery.
With a rich culinary background and a commitment to sourcing the finest cuts, Clary has already made a name for himself with Macelleria East Side Butchery in Bexley. Now, he’s expanding his reach with a new outpost in North Market Downtown, offering an impressive selection of premium meats. The shop will focus on locally sourced and sustainably raised products, ensuring that both professional chefs and home cooks can enjoy the very best ingredients.
Joining Clary in this exciting new venture is Ian Holmes, the well-known owner of COLO Seafood & Oyster Bar and COLO Burger Bar. Holmes, a familiar face at North Market, brings his expertise and passion for quality food to the table, making this partnership one to watch. Together, Clary and Holmes aim to elevate the market’s meat offerings, providing Columbus residents with an unmatched selection of fresh, high-quality meats.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a vendor at North Market Downtown, a Columbus institution for 148 years!!!” said Clary, expressing his enthusiasm for the new location.
Holmes echoed his excitement, stating, “Phillip’s expertise and dedication are a perfect match for COLO Burger Bar. This partnership will not only enhance what we offer but will also allow us to better serve our customers. We can’t wait for everyone to experience what we have in store.”
Rick Harrison Wolfe, the Executive Director and CEO of North Market, shared his excitement for the new addition, highlighting the collaboration’s alignment with the market’s mission to showcase the best local talent. “Phillip already has a solid following and reputation as the top butcher in town with his Bexley location, and I’m confident that Macelleria at North Market will quickly become another favorite destination for our downtown meat lovers and home chefs,” Wolfe said.
Macelleria will feature a wide range of fresh beef, pork, lamb, and chicken, with daily cuts and in-house made items such as bolognese, ragus, stews, and chillis. Future plans include chef-driven, ticketed tasting dinners and the launch of Surf & Turf fresh butcher and seafood subscription boxes, a collaboration between Macelleria and COLO Seafood & Oyster Bar.
Although the grand opening is pending final inspections, Macelleria is expected to open in September with special promotions planned to celebrate the occasion. The initial hours of operation will be Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with plans to expand hours in the coming months.
Whether you’re a seasoned chef or just love a good cut of meat, Macelleria North Market Butchery is sure to become a must-visit spot in downtown Columbus. North Market is located at 59 Spruce St, Columbus, OH 43215. You can plan your visit by heading over to northmarket.org.
