This Italian Village Spot Is Finally Reopening After A Car Crashed Into The Restaurant

After months of repairs, fundraising, and uncertainty, Mezcla is finally reopening its doors.

The Italian Village restaurant announced on social media that it will officially reopen on June 5, nearly five months after a vehicle crashed into the building and forced the restaurant to shut down unexpectedly.

“The wait is over…” the restaurant shared in its reopening announcement this week. “We will officially reopen June 5th and we’re ready to welcome everyone back!”

For fans of Mezcla, the reopening has been a long time coming.

Back in January, a vehicle slammed into the corner of the restaurant’s Summit Street building, causing major structural and interior damage near the entrance. According to Columbus police, one person was hospitalized in stable condition following the crash. No other injuries were reported, but the damage forced Mezcla to temporarily close less than a year after first opening.

At the time, the restaurant described the closure as devastating not only for the business itself, but also for the staff members whose livelihoods were suddenly interrupted.

“Our team is the heart of Mezcla,” the restaurant wrote in a GoFundMe launched after the crash. “Right now, they need the community that has shown us so much love.”

The fundraiser ultimately brought in around $15,000 to help support employees and assist with rebuilding costs during the closure.

Now, the restaurant is preparing to jump back into service just in time for summer patio season.

Mezcla, located at 1022 Summit St., describes itself as a mixed Latin kitchen and cocktail lounge, blending shareable dishes, bold flavors, and a stylish nightlife atmosphere that quickly made it one of the neighborhood’s buzziest newer restaurants after opening in April 2025.

And while rebuilding Mezcla, owner and executive chef Garrett Talmage hasn’t exactly been sitting still.

Talmage has also been developing a new nearby concept called Coldbar, which is expected to open later this summer in Italian Village. The upcoming cocktail-focused space will center around a 32-foot bar and a menu of elevated cold dishes and snacks, including oysters, crudos, shrimp cocktail, caviar, and comfort-food-inspired small plates.

But first, Mezcla is finally getting its comeback moment.

Reservations for the reopening are already live, and the restaurant says larger parties can reserve by emailing the team directly. For more info, head over to mezclacocina.com.
