Lower.com Field is officially open and it’s spectacular.
On Saturday night, the Crew will take the pitch at the brand new Lower.com Field. The stadium seats 20,000 fans and every seat is covered by the canopy. The stadium feels much more intimate than Historic Crew Stadium and the pitch is as much as 28’ closer to the fans in some places.
There are several areas around the stadium for fans to gather. There’s a public plaza outside complete with a 14’ x 24’ video board. The area will host public events as well as watch parties, concerts, and more.
On non-matchdays, The Pub restaurant and Crew Shop will be open for visitors to make use of the area even when the Crew aren’t playing.
On Tuesday, the official ribbon cutting took place at the new stadium. Local government officials were joined by Crew owners Dee Haslam and Dr. Pete Edwards, as well as MLS commissioner Don Garber for the event.
There are views of the pitch from nearly every corner of the new stadium, which means that whether you’re waiting in line for a beer or to use the restroom, you can still easily see what’s happening on the field.
In addition to stadium seating, there are also 24 suites and they’re the definition of luxury, including seating areas, televisions, access to food and drink, and more.
The first match at the stadium will be on Saturday, July 3 when the Columbus Crew will take on New England Revolution at 5 p.m. For more info about the stadium, you can visit the Columbus Crew website here.
