Shiver Me Timbers: This Local Home Has A Full Pirate Display

If you’re wanting to see pirates this Halloween, you don’t need to time travel or take to the high seas. A 16 year-old high school student has brought them to life for the Columbus Metro community to enjoy.

Peyton Maxstead, a student at Grove City High School, loves the holidays. And for him, that starts at Halloween. Every year, he helps bring Sulton Court in Meadow Grove (Grove City) to life with a pirate-themed display. This year is his biggest yet, with a total of 41 skeletons, three 12-foot tall skeletons, canons, and a 20-foot long pirate ship.

New this year is the popular “Tug-of-War” skeleton that Peyton was able to procure from a professional Halloween decoration retailer in Cincinnati that usually outfits haunted attractions.

His collection includes a medical-grade skeleton hanging upside down and multiple homemade canons releasing fog. Peyton explains that he built the canons himself, using concrete tubes and painted pool noodles, held by 2×4 pieces of wood.

The house is free for all to enjoy and will be expecting an influx of traffic during Trick-or-Treat night on Thursday, October 31st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., so plan accordingly. That night, there will be cones set up in front of the house to discourage vehicles from parking and blocking the view, and a local police officer will be present to direct traffic.

Visitors are free to take pictures and videos from the sidewalk. Peyton only has a few rules that he has shared on Facebook to make the event fun for everyone:

  • 1. Please stay on the pavement
  • 2. No touching the pirates
  • 3. Don’t leave trash
  • 5. Please no parking in front of the display
  • 6. Have fun and make memories!

This home haunt display will be available until Saturday morning, November 2nd, when Peyton plans to begin take-down to make way for his Christmas decorations. The last night will be Friday, November 1st, when the display will likely be lights only (no fog or music) due to potential rain.

While you’re stopping by, don’t miss other houses on the street who have joined in on the fun! Come set sail at the coolest home haunt we have ever seen. Sea legs not required.
