If you’ve been craving the unbeatable peace and quiet of nature, surrounded by lush trees and stunning views, I’ve got just the place. Dunlap Ridge in Hocking Hills is a peaceful retreat, nestled on a private drive, and it provided me the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Here’s a peek into my fantastic experience and why you should consider it for your next getaway.
The Perfect Hideaway
Dunlap Ridge features four unique cabins, each designed with comfort and privacy in mind. We had the pleasure of staying in The Den and The Pine, and both offered distinct yet equally delightful experiences.

The Den is modern and sleek, with impeccable interior design that blends nature with an organic modern aesthetic. The cabin is cozy and intimate, perfect for couples. It comes with a hot tub and a private patio, creating a secluded oasis ideal for relaxation.

The Pine, on the other hand, has a charming farmhouse vibe. It’s located at the top of the ridge, offering breathtaking views from every angle. The light and airy open-concept living space is both rustic and modern, giving it a homey feel.
The outdoor fire pit and lights add a magical touch to evenings spent under the stars. Plus, the hot tub and sauna (arriving in August) right outside the back door make it the ultimate relaxation spot.
Comfort and Convenience
Both cabins were well-equipped with all the essentials. From kitchen basics to luxurious soaps and shampoos, everything was thoughtfully provided. The bathrooms, especially the showers, were fantastic, and the super comfy furniture made it easy to unwind. Walking barefoot on the composite decking felt great, and the nice outdoor seating areas were perfect for enjoying the stunning views.
One of the highlights was the excellent vinyl collection in both cabins, adding a nostalgic touch to the cozy atmosphere. The provided robes and slippers were a lovely bonus, making the stay feel even more special.
A Personal Touch from the Owners
Dunlap Ridge was a passion project for owners Courtney and Justin Hamilton. Courtney shared, “Dunlap Ridge was a concept that effortlessly evolved into what it is now. When we say effortlessly, we don’t mean without effort but it wasn’t forced. We knew we wanted to invest in the area and had kept an eye on it for quite some time. This property came across our radar twice. We missed out on it the first time and things didn’t work out with the original buyer. When it came back on the market, we knew we had to pursue it.”
The Hamiltons’ vision for Dunlap Ridge was clear from the start. They wanted to create a unique and private experience for their guests while fostering a sense of community.
Courtney explained, “We feel like we’ve accomplished that by positioning our cabins in a way that they provide unique views and complete privacy all while being a short stroll from each other. While on the exterior the cabins may look the same, each cabin provides a unique experience and has a different vibe.”
The Scenic Beauty of Hocking Hills
Hocking Hills is renowned for its natural beauty, and Dunlap Ridge is ideally located to explore it all. The cabins are about 8 minutes from Route 33, 17-20 minutes to the state park lodge, and 8-9 minutes to Rock House. If you’re up for a bit of a drive, Ash Cave is just 25 minutes away.
For the best stargazing and outdoor experiences, Hocking Hills boasts several dark sky areas. John Glenn Astronomy Park is a must-visit for astronomy enthusiasts, offering some of the best views of the night sky. The numerous nature trails around the cabins provide excellent hiking and jogging opportunities, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquil environment.

A Few Tips
While the cabins are a fantastic getaway, it’s important to note that having a 4WD or all-wheel drive vehicle is highly advisable. The drive up to the cabins near the top of the property can be challenging, and turning off Dunlap Ridge requires some momentum.
For those who like a stress-free experience, Dunlap Ridge offers a hospitality manager dedicated to making your stay memorable and hassle-free. Courtney shared, “We have a hospitality manager who is committed to lending herself as a resource to our guests. She handles each inquiry personally and is available as a concierge to help make your stay stress-free.”
And there’s more to look forward to at Dunlap Ridge. “We will start our fourth cabin in August,” Courtney said. “The Squire will sleep 6-8 and will cap off the development. We hope to provide our guests with everything they need, whether it’s a space for two, a group of friends, or a family.”
Our stay at Dunlap Ridge was nothing short of magical. The cabins are perfect for a cozy couples weekend, offering privacy, comfort, and stunning views that will be even more breathtaking in the fall when the leaves change color.
It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to relax in a hot tub, enjoy a vinyl collection, or explore the natural beauty of Hocking Hills, Dunlap Ridge has it all.
