Dave Chappelle is opening a comedy club and restaurant in Yellow Springs.
Chappelle submitted plans to the Yellow Springs Planning Commission to transform a former Miami Township Fire Station into a restaurant called Firehouse Eatery and a comedy club called Live from YS.
The commission approved those plans, which means that the club is officially a go. While the restaurant and club would have some joint events, they would mostly operate independently of one another. The restaurant is expected to be open seven days a week and there will be shows held at the comedy club four days a week.
At a virtual commission meeting last week, Chappelle explained his big dreams for the project, highlighting the opportunity to give local comedians a platform for growth.
“I feel like if we had a venue like this – if you were an aspiring artist, if you were able to see the best entertainment available in the world in your hometown and were able to even to perform on that stage -there’s a lot of people who may have not otherwise been able to make it out of here could,” said Chappelle at the meeting. “I’m not just trying to make a club, I’m trying to make a way.”
The comedy club is expected to hold 140 people. Located at 225 Corry St. in Yellow Springs, the club and restaurant will be about an hour from Columbus. Who’s ready for a very funny road trip?
