Columbus travelers will soon be able to fly nonstop to Europe without driving to another airport first. Lufthansa is launching nonstop service between John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Frankfurt, Germany, on May 5, 2027.
The new route will operate three times a week aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, connecting Central Ohio to Lufthansa’s hub in Frankfurt. From there, travelers will have access to destinations throughout Europe and beyond, opening up more options for international trips from Columbus.
For years, travelers looking to fly nonstop from Ohio to Europe have had limited options, often driving to another city to catch a trans-Atlantic flight. The new Lufthansa route will give Columbus its own nonstop connection to mainland Europe, making trips abroad more convenient for Central Ohio residents.
The Frankfurt route also arrives as John Glenn International continues to expand its offerings. Earlier this year, the airport announced new service to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, with both routes scheduled to begin in early 2027.
John Glenn currently offers more than 55 nonstop destinations across 11 airlines, and the airport is preparing for another major change with a new terminal expected to open in 2029.
The Lufthansa route is scheduled to begin May 5, 2027. Additional details about booking and flight schedules are expected as the launch date approaches.
