For a lot of 90’s kids, Pizza Hut wasn’t just where you went to eat pizza.
It was where you celebrated birthdays. It was where you went after games. It was where you proudly cashed in a Book It! certificate after spending weeks reading enough books to earn a free Personal Pan Pizza!
And while many of those classic Pizza Hut dining rooms have disappeared over the years, they’re not completely gone.
A growing wave of nostalgia is sending people in search of the Pizza Hut experience they remember from childhood, complete with red plastic cups, checkered tablecloths, cozy booths, arcade games, Tiffany-style lamps, and those unmistakable red roofs that once dotted roadsides across America.
According to Pizza Hut, there are currently 155 retro-style locations still operating around the country. Several of them are right here in Ohio. Some franchised locations are even undergoing redesigns to help them achieve the classic look.

And Pizza Hut may have one of the strongest “remember when?” cards to play.
Because that nostalgia has become a major trend across the restaurant industry. Brands are increasingly bringing back old menu items, classic designs, and throwback experiences as customers look for small reminders of simpler times.
An entire generation grew up associating Pizza Hut with family dinners, school reading rewards, Little League celebrations, and Friday nights that felt special because someone ordered stuffed crust.
Social media has helped fuel the revival. Videos of retro Pizza Hut locations routinely rack up hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok and Instagram, with commenters sharing memories of Book It!, lunch buffets, and childhood birthday parties. Some fans are even traveling across state lines to visit surviving locations.
Ohio happens to be one of the better states for a nostalgia-fueled pizza pilgrimage.
Here are some of the classic Pizza Hut locations still operating in Ohio:

Alongside the return of Classic Pizza Hut dining rooms, the company is also bringing back its beloved Book It! reading program.
The program rewards kids with free pizza for reaching reading goals. The program became a cultural touchstone for an entire generation of students who proudly read extra books in exchange for pizza. (You can sign your kiddos up here.)
At a time when restaurants are increasingly embracing automation, self-ordering kiosks, and streamlined dining rooms, Pizza Hut is betting that people still crave something a little more familiar.
In keeping with the 90’s trip down memory lane, Pizza Hut also announced it was bringing back its original pan pizza crust, aiming to recreate “the pizza your parents ordered on a Friday night, except better.”
