Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) is adding a brand-new library to its lineup, bringing its total number of branches to 24. The new Case Road Branch will serve the city’s northwest side, marking a significant expansion into a previously underserved area.
The branch will be located on West Case Road, across from The Ohio State University’s airport, on a parcel of land informally known as the “sheep farm.” The land, purchased by the City of Columbus from OSU in 2019, will also be home to a planned city park. This collaboration with the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department promises to bring both literary and outdoor experiences to the community.
“We know that northwest residents have been eager for a community library, and we’re delighted by the opportunity to fulfill that desire,” said CML CEO Lauren Hagan.
The project has an initial budget of $15.9 million, with construction expected to begin in 2026.
The library’s design will be led by MSR Design, a women-owned architecture firm based in Minneapolis. Known for creating transformative, human-centered spaces, MSR Design has completed over 90 library projects nationwide, earning awards for many of them. The Case Road Branch will mark their first project in Ohio, adding another highlight to their impressive portfolio.

Beyond books, CML branches are known for creating vibrant community spaces, offering programs, technology, and meeting areas that benefit residents of all ages. While details of the Case Road Branch’s design haven’t been released yet, the partnership between CML and MSR Design hints at a modern, sustainable, and accessible space that will serve as a hub for learning and connection.
For northwest Columbus residents, this project is a long-awaited resource for education, entertainment, and community building.
