Most firework shows are canceled around Central Ohio this year.
While I was initially a little sad about that, now I’m sort of relieved. Around Columbus, the state, and the country, communities are experiencing nightly fireworks in our own neighborhoods. It’s been no different in my little corner of Columbus and that’s why I was so excited to hear about a non-firework light show going down this weekend.
From July 1-5, The City of Westerville, the Rotary Club of Westerville, and Butch Bando’s Fantasy of Lights are teaming up to put on a COVID-19 conscious 4th of July event. The Lights of Liberty Show is a drive-thru digital light show where you’ll be able to tune into a dedicated radio station and remain in your cars for an Independence Day light show synchronized to music.
During this socially distanced light show, you’ll need to remain in your vehicle at all times. There will be contactless ticket purchasing available through Eventbrite and tickets are $10 per vehicle. Proceeds from the event will benefit SEALKIDS and Honor Flight Westerville.
The light show will run daily July 1-5, from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Westerville Athletic Complex (325 N. Cleveland Ave.)
