The Top 10 Dopest French Fries Columbus Has To Offer

A love letter to everyone’s favorite potato based food.

For many, the french fry is nothing more than a sidekick. A sandwich accessory meant to accentuate the plate, not define it. For years the fry has been abused, ignored, flung at friend’s faces for no other reason than because you were already full and bored and maybe kind of buzzed. That all stops now (okay, maybe not the whole fry to the face thing, comedy is comedy). We at the Navigator are making it our mission to kickstart some French fry appreciation, starting with this awesome list of the city’s best deep fried potato sticks. French fries, this one goes out to you.

The Acropolis

This fast-food Greek joint has some pretty decent gyros, but their freedom fries are good enough to salute. Yeah, I called them freedom fries. We should all remember that embarrassing moment when America took fried foods more seriously than politics.

Arch City

Besides having an ancient moniker for Columbus that I swear no one else knows about but me, this bar and diner also has some pretty stellar french fries. Order them extra truffle-y and pair them with the sliders for the full experience.

Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails

The only fish I like is the one that comes from the sea #gaylunch #salmon #pretzelbun #sweetpotatofries

If sweet potato fries are your thing then make sure you try some at Tip Top. A tad bit on the dark/dive bar side, but hey, if it’s one thing dive bars definitely know how to do right, it’s fry a potato. That, and keeping you out to an indecent hour of the night.

Eden Burger/The Village Idiot

This place specializes in organic, high quality, veggie burgers and fries. For the time being, you can catch them operating out of the Village idiot, serving up fresh eats. Their unofficial motto? “Save the f’n world”.

101 Beer Kitchen

Today’s lunch…then I’m going to start eating healthy soon lol😂😂

101 Beer Kitchen is anything but the basics. Most of their food is pretty killer but today we gotta give it up for the fries. Just look at that lightly seasoned goodness and try to deny the true awesomeness that is the potato. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

Harvest Bar and Kitchen

via Yelp
Fries come in all shapes and all sizes. Some people enjoy the light crunch of shoestring fries, some the thickness of wedge fries, still others prefer crinkle fries (those people are wrong and evil and they hate us for our freedom, there, I said it). Harvest happens to rock some pretty great wedge cut fries. All of their food also happens to come locally sourced so let yourself go.

Taste of Belgium

A post shared by Roxanne. (@rox_on_rox) on

Imagine this: Belgium style sliced potatoes, deep fried in beef tallow rendered from mutton fat. Okay, that’s it. Deceptively simple, I know, but you will absolutely taste the difference. I’m not saying it’s especially healthy but hey, sometimes it’s all about the potato.

The Walrus’s french fries are almost a golden brown masterpiece. A Shakespearean sonnet in the form of deep-fried perfection. To stare directly into its crispy yellow sheen is to stare into the depths of some deep and infinite truth. Behold, the fry of the covenant…

Fado’s Irish Pub

via Facebook
These perfectly cooked fries are good enough on their own but they also come paired with several sauces. Whether you’re in the mood for a Maria Rose or a Guinness aioli, Fado’s has what you need to declare yourself the sauce boss. Just, maybe don’t tell your friends you call yourself “the sauce boss” and that you’re secretly obsessed with Guy Fieri. Friendship can only be tested so much.

Herb N Cafe

A post shared by Ang (@tandanicole) on

Not only are these fries as delicious as they are gorgeous, Herb N Cafe also makes all of their ketchup in-house. Heavily seasoned with herbs and cheese, these crispy tater spears aren’t messing around. They came in to do two things, to chew gum and kick butt, and they’re all out of bubblegum (ten points if you can name that movie, 15 if you know the actor).

So there you have it, the ten best french fries in the city. Now some may say that we’ve neglected to mention one of the best fries to ever exist. That we willfully ignored a titan of crispy potato goodness. And to that we say- wait, what’s this!-
