Campus cafes have gotten way cooler than when I was in school.
I’m not knocking the stale coffee and overpriced candy options that I had access to in college, it got me through some tough times, but let’s just say that it doesn’t hold a candle to the new on-campus cafe at Columbus State Community College.
Blend Cafe, located in the recently completed Mitchell Hall at Columbus State, is officially open. The cafe and bakery is offering a variety of grab-and-go items, including pastries, sandwiches and soups, and a daily lunch special.
All of the food served at Blend is prepared by students in the Culinary Arts School and the cafe itself is staffed by students and is partly student-run. Open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., the cafe is a quiet place for students to stop in between classes as well as a convenient spot for anyone in the neighborhood to grab a cup of coffee.
Tips from Blend Cafe will go to the Mid-Ohio Market, located on CSCC’s campus. The market supports shoppers and students with household incomes at less than 200% of the federal poverty level have access to fresh foods.
Since Blend was my first stop of the day, I knew I’d be ordering some coffee. But when it came to choosing the perfect pastry to accompany my latte, I was torn. After much deliberation, I decided to try the pumpkin roll and the cinnamon roll, and I was not disappointed because both were delicious.
The cafe is airy and open, with floor to ceiling windows enveloping you in light as you sip on your coffee and presumably get a lot of homework done.
Blend Cafe is located at 250 Cleveland Ave, on the ground floor of Mitchell Hall.
