Ready to relax?
One of the city’s metro parks just opened an awesome new feature. The Hammock Nook at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can hang your own hammock or you can make a stop at the Nature Center on your way into the park and borrow one courtesy of REI.
Nestled in a peaceful grove of trees, the Hammock Nook is a great place to spend the afternoon with a good book, to ignore the outside world and to get some genuine R&R.
The hammocking area at the park is first come, first serve, so it’s not a guarantee that you’ll be able to snag a hammock. There aren’t many rules when it comes to the Hammock Nook. You can only use tree straps and you can’t double stack your hammocks. There’s no smoking in the area and if you want to listen to music, you’ll need to bring your own headphones.
Lastly, the park adheres to the Leave No Trace Principles, so be prepared to take everything you bring into the park with you when you leave. I know you’re anxious to get going, but I do want to mention one last thing. Around the nook, you’ll see some trees that are marked with tape. That means that they aren’t strong enough yet to support the weight of your hammock, so don’t set up there!
Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park is located at 1775 Darby Creek Dr, Galloway, Ohio 43119. For more info about the park, you can visit their website here.
