Ohio Just Created A Massive Golf Trail With 182 Public Courses

Ohio has no shortage of great golf courses, but figuring out where to play next just got a whole lot easier.

TourismOhio has unveiled the Ohio Golf Trail, a new statewide guide connecting 182 public golf courses from every corner of the Buckeye State. The trail is designed to help golfers discover everything from scenic state park courses and lakeside fairways to historic clubs and championship-caliber destinations.

Unlike many golf bucket lists, the Ohio Golf Trail focuses on courses that are accessible to the public, making it as useful for weekend golfers as it is for die-hard fans of the game.

But the trail isn’t just about what happens on the course.

The guide encourages travelers to turn a tee time into a road trip, highlighting the communities, restaurants, attractions, and outdoor adventures that surround many of Ohio’s most notable golf destinations.

Among the featured stops is Clearview Golf Club in Canton, a landmark course recognized as the first golf course in the United States built and owned by an African American. Founded by William “Bill” Powell, the course is celebrating its 80th anniversary and remains under the stewardship of the Powell family today.

Closer to home, central Ohio golfers will recognize another featured destination: the Jack Nicklaus Museum on the campus of The Ohio State University.

The museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of golf memorabilia and celebrates the legacy of the Columbus-area golf legend whose Memorial Tournament recently marked its 50th anniversary.

The guide also highlights Ohio’s five state park lodge golf courses, which combine challenging play with some of the state’s most scenic landscapes, as well as major tournaments like the Greater Toledo Classic, an official Epson Tour event that returns to Highland Meadows Golf Club this July.

“Golf has a unique way of bringing people together and connecting them to a place,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “Whether you’re traveling to watch a tournament, crossing a course off your bucket list, or simply spending a day outdoors with family and friends, the Ohio Golf Trail gives people another reason to get out and explore everything our state has to offer.”

Even for people who don’t spend every weekend chasing birdies, the trail offers an interesting reminder of how deep Ohio’s golf history runs. From nationally recognized championship venues to small-town public courses, the new guide showcases just how much of the state’s golf culture can be explored without a private club membership.

The Ohio Golf Trail is available now and includes interactive trip-planning resources, course information, and suggested stops throughout the state.
