A well-known Columbus dining landmark, The Thurman Cafe, sustained significant damage in a fire Sunday afternoon, according to the Columbus Division of Fire.
Fire crews were dispatched to the popular German Village restaurant shortly after 2:15 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions inside the building. Authorities confirmed that the blaze caused substantial damage to the long-standing establishment.
Despite the severity of the fire, no injuries were reported.

Officials noted that the restaurant was open at the time, though all occupants were safely evacuated.
Established in 1942, The Thurman Cafe has been a staple of German Village for decades, earning a reputation for its oversized burgers and vibrant atmosphere. The eatery has also gained national attention, including a feature on the television show Man v. Food.

The restaurant shared a post on social media, thanking the community for their support.
“Thank you for all the love and support we’ve been seeing,” the post reads. “We’re glad everyone is OK and thankful the electrical fire happened during the day so someone was around to catch it before it was even worse. It’s hard to say when we will be able to reopen, but we look forward to that day.”
