Ohioans can now add some Dolly-inspired flair to their cars while supporting a wonderful cause. The Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library license plate is available for purchase online at OPLATES.com or in person at any Ohio deputy registrar license agency.
Demand for the plate has surged since Dolly Parton died on Aug. 25. Ohio Department of Public Safety records pulled by NBC4 show 259 requests for the plate between Aug. 25 and Aug. 28, compared with 63 over the first 24 days of the month. Before that, the plate’s busiest month had been this past April, with 80 requests; it has drawn 792 so far this year.
The plate costs $35 a year on top of standard registration fees. Of that, $25 goes to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio, supporting the local program in the county where the plate is bought, and $10 covers the BMV’s administrative fee. These funds help cover the cost of mailing one child 12 books over the course of a year, making literacy more accessible to families across the state.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has had a significant impact in Ohio.
The program, which sends free books to children under five, was expanded statewide in November 2020 under the leadership of Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine. Inspired by her grandchildren’s experience with Greene County’s Imagination Library program, First Lady DeWine spearheaded the effort to make the program available in all 88 counties. Since its launch in 2019, the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Ohio’s children through the power of books.
Ohio is only the second state to offer a Dolly Parton Imagination Library license plate, following Tennessee. If you’re a fan of Dolly or passionate about promoting childhood literacy, this specialty plate is a perfect choice.
