If you’re looking for something different to do this Presidents Day, the Ohio History Center is leaning into one thing Ohio does especially well: presidents.
On Monday, Feb. 16, the Ohio History Connection is hosting a Presidents Day event from noon to 3 p.m. at the Ohio History Center, offering visitors a chance to explore Ohio’s outsized role in presidential history. After all, eight U.S. presidents have ties to the Buckeye State.
Hands-On History and Presidential Memorabilia
Throughout the afternoon, guests can take part in interactive activities, chat with Ohio History Connection historians, and get an up-close look at presidential memorabilia and historical correspondence from the organization’s collections. It’s designed to be approachable and hands-on, whether you’re a history buff or just tagging along with family.
One highlight of the day starts at 1 p.m., when Sherry Hall, retired site superintendent for the Warren G. Harding Presidential Sites in Marion, will give a special talk on Harding’s life and legacy. The talk offers a deeper dive into one of Ohio’s most well-known presidents and his impact on the country.
Ohio Women Vote: 100 Years of Change
Other activities happening during the event include a presidential memorabilia table led by history curator Ben Baughman, a traveling exhibit titled Ohio Women Vote: 100 Years of Change – How It Evolved, voter information from Common Cause Ohio, and presidential-themed craft activities for kids.
The Presidents Day programming is included with regular museum admission, though registration is recommended. You can learn more and sign up at ohiohistory.org/events.
If you’ve ever wanted a reminder of just how much Ohio has shaped the nation’s history, this is a solid way to spend a winter afternoon.
