The Crew And FC Cincinnati Are Set For A ‘Hell Is Real’ Playoff Showdown

Buckle up, Crew fans! It’s officially “Hell is Real” season.

The Columbus Crew are facing off against their southern rivals, FC Cincinnati, in the first round of the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs, and yes, things are about to get spicy. Major League Soccer dropped the full playoff schedule, so now we know exactly when this Ohio rivalry is about to light up our screens (and probably a few group chats).

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Game 1: Monday, Oct. 27 at 6:45 p.m. — at TQL Stadium (Cincinnati)
  • Game 2: Sunday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. — at Lower.com Field (Columbus)
  • Game 3 (if needed): Saturday, Nov. 8 — back at TQL Stadium, time TBD

This best-of-three setup means it’s all about who can outlast and outscore, with no extra time — if the match is tied, they head straight to penalties. No pressure.

It’s been a good year for the Black & Gold when it comes to our neighbors down I-71.

Columbus went unbeaten against Cincinnati in the regular season, pulling off a 1-1 draw at home and a 4-2 win on the road. Historically, it’s not even close: the Crew have taken down FCC 10 times in 18 matches, while Cincinnati’s managed only four wins.

Of course, Crew fans still remember the 2023 Eastern Conference Final — the last time these two met in the playoffs. That night, Columbus came back from two goals down in Cincinnati, stunned the home crowd, and rolled all the way to the MLS Cup title.

Whoever wins this year’s Ohio clash will move on to face either Inter Miami or Nashville SC.

The MLS Cup Final is set for Dec. 6, though the odds of it landing in Columbus are slim. Still — if there’s one thing Crew fans know, it’s how to make a road trip worth it.

So grab your scarves and get ready for another fiery round of “Hell is Real.”
