A New Community Market Is Starting This May In Merion Village

The south side of Columbus will soon have a new community market.

The Southside Market was created by two friends with a shared passion for creating beautiful things, and an interest in bringing awareness to all that our Southside community has to offer. Tiffany Wedekind, Owner of Wanderlust Studio and Recycled Karma Candles, reached out to Annie Winchester (owner of Pink Bird Potions) with the idea for a new market, and Annie got straight to work.

“Our mission for this market is to bring our neighborhood together, generate awareness of local small businesses, support our city’s artists as well as economic development, and build up the community,” said Winchester. “We are dedicated to bringing our neighborhood together and strengthening our community.”

The two markets will be located at Wanderlust Studio and Austen & Company. “By setting up two market locations within walking distance from each other, we’re hoping to bring about increased awareness and interest for the other small businesses in our area,” explained Winchester.

So far, local artists and artisan vendors have already reserved spaces for the market, which will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 1- August 28. Vendors will be offering everything from fresh local produce and specialty foods to homemade bath & body goods, hand-made art, unique jewelry, food trucks, live entertainment, and more.

One particular feature of the market will be artist Miranda Gray’s impressive chalk art mural. The Southside Community Coloring Page chalk mural will off a place where market-goers can finish coloring in Gray’s design with provided chalk.

“Each mural will reflect our diverse, unified, colorful community, and when it’s done, it will be a unique piece of art made by many different hands,” said Winchester.

Each market will have a featured food truck. SLAP will be kicking the market season off on May 1st and Biscuit Boss, Uncle Will’s Wagon, Pitabilities, Broke Johnny, Explores Club, Zaki Grill, Tacomania, Dirty Franks, and Redwood Wagon will also be on site.
