If you’re subscribed to our newsletter or you’ve been visiting Columbus Navigator for a while, you know that we’re big fans of any opportunity to check out the Northern Lights. It’s been such a wonderful few years for aurora viewing in Columbus, especially in 2024.
Thanks to a G4 geomagnetic storm, the capital city (and most of Ohio) was treated to some truly spectacular views of the aurora borealis.
Take a look at some of the shots captured around town last night.

If you missed the show last night, there’s always a chance to see them again. We’re currently experiencing the solar maximum, which means the point in the solar cycle where the sun is the most active. With more activity comes greater chances to view the aurora further south.
If you’d like to learn more about the northern lights, you can head over to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center where you can check out aurora forecasts, get geomagnetic storm warnings, and more.
