This Outdoor Winter Park In Northeastern Ohio Is A Total Blast

Looking for the perfect day of outdoor winter fun? Look no further.

For the past 16 years, the City of Akron has put on one heck of a party. Winterblast, a festival celebrating all things cold, snowy, and fun, is one of the coolest winter offerings in Ohio. The fest is held at Lock 3, named after the historic Lock 3 of the Ohio-Erie Canal.

Winterblast is truly a “fun for the whole family” affair. Activities include ice skating, ice biking (we’ll come back to this), ice bumper cars, indoor putt-putt and so much more.

This cold-weather embracing adventure park is set up through February 27, so don’t feel rushed. There is plenty of time to plan a mini-road trip. Winterblast hosts several events throughout the season, tailored to families with younger kiddos.

There are three awesome events remaining this season, including an ode to Toy Story, a superhero pajama party, and a Disney-themed day. Each special event includes breakfast, entrance to the Akron Children’s Museum, ice skating + skate rental, Polar Putt-Putt, and photo ops with costumed characters. Tickets for the special events are $15/child and $10/adult.

If you’re still wondering what the heck ice biking is, I’ll end the suspense. Ice bikes are bicycles mounted on sleds that visitors can rent for $10, 20-minute ride. They’re sort of wacky, but in the best possible way. Ice bumper cars are a huge favorite at the festival and cost $10 for 15 minutes.

For those of you who plan to keep it simple during your visit, ice skating at the Huntington Ice Rink costs $2 with your own skates or $4 with skate rental.

“Winterblast is a hallmark of the Akron holiday season,” Mayor Dan Horrigan said. “It’s well worth the effort to navigate the downtown construction and stop by Lock 3 for a truly unique and enjoyable experience—whether that’s skating on the ice rink, strolling past the magical, animated window displays, or attending one of the many unique seasonal events. There truly is something for everyone during Winterblast.”

I’m sure by now you’re already planning your day trip to Akron. For more info about visiting Winterblast at Lock 3, you can check out their website.

Let’s make the most out of this winter, friends!
