Community STEAM Events: May 1-3
The festivities kick off on May 1st with a series of community STEAM events across Central Ohio. From behind-the-scenes tours at cutting-edge facilities to educational talks and scenic nature walks, these events are perfect for those eager to explore the science unfolding in their own backyard.
Be a Scientist: Envision yourself in the shoes of a scientist with activities that include everything from engaging with NASA astronauts to explosive demonstrations by local artisans.
Adult Science Series: Tailored for the grown-ups, these sessions blend science with socializing. Think brewery tours with a scientific twist or trivia nights packed with nerdy delights.
BioBlitz Citizen Science Series: Grab your phone and join in on a BioBlitz, where you can help catalog local biodiversity using the iNaturalist app—turning a simple walk in the park into a citizen science expedition.
Arts Events: Discover the seamless connections between art and science through performances and public art projects that illustrate scientific concepts in visually and emotionally engaging ways.
Science Block Party: Wrap up a day of exploration with a neighborhood science block party. Expect hands-on science stations, lively music, and local food trucks for a perfect blend of learning and leisure.
The Big Science Celebration: May 4
The grand finale, The Big Science Celebration, takes place on May 4th from 11 am to 5 pm on the scenic Scioto Peninsula, right around COSI at 333 West Broad St, Columbus, OH. This event is free to the public and perfect for all ages, featuring over 100 exhibitor stations where you can get hands-on with science.
What to Expect:
Interact and Engage: Meet STEAM professionals from a range of fields—from robotics and automotive engineering to biology and the arts. Each booth offers interactive, engaging experiences designed to inspire and educate.
Exhibitors Galore: Highlights include the future of farming with 80 Acres Farms, high-tech healthcare with Abbott, and even aerospace insights from America’s Navy and The Boeing Company. Younger visitors will love getting messy in the Giant Eagle Pharmacy booth or exploring wildlife with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
Prepare for All Weathers: This is a rain or shine event, so dress accordingly. In case of severe weather, updates will be provided via the festival’s website and social media.
