Somewhere along the way, we decided adults needed rules for eating dessert. Lion Cub’s Cookies would like a word.
There was a very specific kind of magic to being a kid in the ’90s and getting a snack that was basically just cookies and frosting. No one was worried about presentation. You weren’t supposed to savor it or pair it with anything. You just dipped the cookie into the frosting and went to town.
That nostalgic little experience is back in Columbus, at least for a week.
Lion Cub’s Cookies has brought back its Dunk-A-Lion treat, and the bakery has given the throwback a new spin with Dunk-A-Lion 2.0. It comes with a cup of Rainbow Sugar Cookies and your choice of two buttercream flavors, which means you get to decide exactly how much frosting is enough.
Spoiler: There is no such thing as too much frosting.
The current buttercream lineup includes Vanilla Bean, Rainbow, Cookies n Cream, Pumpkin, and Peanut Butter. Pick two, then figure out your own strategy.
Maybe you’re a classic dipper who wants a little frosting on every cookie. Maybe you’re going to sandwich two cookies together with an irresponsible amount of buttercream in the middle. Maybe you want to combine Rainbow and Cookies n Cream into some kind of frosting Frankenstein. There’s really no reason to overthink this.
Dunk-A-Lion feels like the kind of treat that was designed around the most important childhood dessert rule: if it tastes good, you’re doing it right. It’s messy, customizable, a little ridiculous, and considerably more fun than eating a cookie like a normal adult.
There is one catch, though.
Dunk-A-Lion 2.0 is only available for one week, while supplies last. Lion Cub’s says it expects them to go quickly, so this is one of those cases where you probably shouldn’t add it to the mental list of things you’ll get around to trying later.
You can pick one up at either Lion Cub’s Cookies location, with both shops open Monday through Sunday this week: 1261 Grandview Ave. in Grandview or 7105 North High Street in Worthington.
And yes, you are allowed to eat the frosting first. Nobody’s stopping you.
