Columbus has one of the best donut shops in the country, according to a national site that has spent years ranking donuts from coast to coast. 2foodtrippers ranks Destination Donuts No. 28 on its “30 Great Donuts in America” list, which got a fresh update on Aug. 13.
The food and travel site has kept the list going for years and revises it as new contenders earn a spot. Destination Donuts has held a place on it since at least 2020. The latest version runs 30 deep, and Ohio claims two of the slots. The company Columbus keeps on the list stretches from Blue Star Donuts in Portland to Doughnuttery in New York.
What the list says about Destination Donuts
The writeup follows the shop’s path from market stall to storefront. Destination Donuts started as a pop-up inside North Market in 2012 and now runs its own shop in Clintonville, where 2foodtrippers says it’s become “a destination for donut fans in Ohio’s capital city.”
The site runs down the details regulars already know: flavors change daily, and every donut in the case is vegan, a switch the writeup describes as fairly recent. The recommendation is dessert first, vegan second.
Cincinnati is on there too
Holtman’s Donut Shop in Cincinnati holds the No. 19 spot. Holtman’s has been open since 1960, which makes it the second oldest shop in the rankings, and 2foodtrippers points to its long johns and buckeye donuts among the popular flavors.
If you go
Destination Donuts is at 3519 N. High St. in Clintonville. The shop is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until the day’s donuts sell out.
