Let’s talk about one of Columbus’ most iconic institutions: Tommy’s Diner.
This Franklinton favorite got started back in 1989, when owners Tom Pappas and his wife Kathy decided to use their life savings to open the diner. After a few years, Tommy’s gained quite the following and a reputation for having the best breakfast around — one it’s held onto for nearly four decades now.
Having a meal at Tommy’s Diner is more like eating at a beloved friend’s house than it is a restaurant. Everyone inside feels like family and the food radiates that same energy. I knew going in that I was definitely getting something off the breakfast menu, but I wasn’t sure what.
Before ordering, I took some time to admire the decor at Tommy’s. It’s got the traditional diner vibe, with counter seating, bright red booths, black and white checkered floors, and neon signs. It’s also full of extremely friendly regulars who aren’t afraid to tell anyone who will listen how great the place is.
After wandering back to my seat and sipping on some coffee, I decided it was time to take the dive and order. I went for the Eggs Benedict, which came with home fries, while my companion ordered the stuffed french toast.
If pictures are worth a thousand words, I bet all of them are YUM. The french toast was insanely delicious, stuffed with cream cheese filling and topped with butter, whipped cream, and fresh berries.
The poached eggs in my Eggs Benedict were a dream. They were a perfect consistency, which isn’t always a given when it comes to poaching eggs. I replaced the traditional English Muffin with a biscuit and between that and the potatoes, I probably should have been rolled out of the restaurant.

If you’ve never stopped in at Tommy’s Diner for a bite, you need to rectify that as soon as possible. They’re located at 914 W. Broad Street and they’re open Monday through Saturday from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
