Here are the best places in Columbus where you can grab a glass or a bottle (we’re not judging) of your favorite wine.

Several of the places on this list are wine shops with a bar attached, which quietly changes how you order. Anything on the retail shelf can be opened on site for a small corkage fee, so you aren’t stuck choosing from whatever is open by the glass. That usually beats the house pour for the money.

Wine on High

Wine on High is a retail wine shop, bar, and private event space in the Short North. The shop hosts fun events and has wine by the glass or flight, as well as draft beer and cocktails. Bar food comes from the Hubbard Grille kitchen next door, and any bottle off the retail shelves can be uncorked at the bar. Wine on High also runs some epic weekly specials, including $6 house pours until 6pm Tuesday through Friday.

House Wine

House Wine is a shop with a bar attached, which makes it a good post-work stop. Self-serve dispensers pour 24 wines by the ounce or the glass, so a flight is whatever you feel like building. Anything on the retail shelves can be opened on site for a $5 corkage fee. Thursday Night Tastings run four or five pours for $15, and there’s a dozen beer taps for whoever came along and doesn’t drink wine.

Meza Wine Shop

Meza Wine Shop is the cutest little wine heaven! Located in downtown Westerville, the shop has over 600 wine labels (wowza) from around the world in “every price range and for every occasion.” About a dozen of them are open by the glass at any given time, rotating, and any bottle on the shelf can be opened at the bar for a $5 corkage fee. Friday tastings start at 6:30.

The Refectory

Obviously, this isn’t just a wine bar. The Refectory is one of the most award-winning restaurants in Columbus. They also happen to have one of the most amazing wine cellars, with over 700 labels to choose from. The restaurant frequently hosts wine events, where the sommelier presents a variety of wine tastings featuring different winemakers and themes.

Coast Wine House

If there was an award for the most photogenic wine bar, Coast Wine House would definitely win. It’s an old house in Historic Dublin, so you get small rooms and a front porch instead of one big room. There’s a full kitchen now, plus beer and cocktails, and the bottle shop stays open whenever the bar is. Reservations go through Tock. Something for everyone, my friends.

The Laundry at Hausfrau Haven

Hausfrau Haven is a wine and beer “haven” located in the historic German Village. It’s a massive boutique wine store that has a huge selection of labels, including rare wines. The Laundry is named after the laundromat that sat next to Hausfrau Haven for years. It’s been completely renovated into one of the most gorgeous wine bars in the city. The bar keeps short hours, Thursday through Saturday from 4pm to 9pm, while the shop next door is open six days a week.

Grandview Vinoteca

Grandview Vinoteca opened on Grandview Avenue at the end of 2024, a sister to Market Bar Vinoteca in Dublin. Twenty wines are open by the glass at any given time, poured from a dispensing system, so a flight costs you a few ounces rather than a commitment. The list leans toward organic vineyards and sustainable producers, and there’s a full cocktail bar for whoever came along for the charcuterie.

Downtown is the one gap a Columbus wine list can’t have, and Accent fills it. The shop sits in the historic Citizens Building on North High, a block from the Statehouse. Sommelier Gregory Stokes opened it on the idea that wine shouldn’t come with a lecture, which is why there are classes on the calendar and a tasting poured every day the door is open. It’s closed Sunday and Monday.

Aardvark Wine & Beer

Aardvark is a bottle shop on the north side with a tasting room in the back called Dive Baar, set in a former scuba pool. The tasting runs every Friday through Sunday, open to close, four wines for $15 with the lineup changing weekly. On the first weekend of the month, 20 percent of the tasting fee goes to a local nonprofit. Happy hour knocks $2 off wine pours and craft drafts from 4pm to 6pm earlier in the week.

Uncorked Wine Tastings

Uncorked put 48 self-pour taps into a restored 1830s building in historic downtown Dublin, a format nothing else in the metro runs. The Napa Wine System lets you pour your own by the ounce, so a night out can be eight small tastes instead of two committed glasses. The restoration kept the original stone walls and exposed rafters, and reclaimed wood from the building became the furniture. The doors are open seven days a week, which on this list is rare.
