The Columbus cocktail scene is actually a lot cooler than you’d imagine.
When it comes to Columbus nightlife it’s great to have a nice neighborhood dive within stumbling distance of your home. But let’s not forget, equally as important is finding the kind of place that’s a bit more upscale and can put together the perfect Pisco Punch or a mean Manhattan.
Cocktail bars aren’t just great for dates (although that goes without saying) they also exorcise that bit of fancy folk in all of us. It doesn’t matter what your job or walk of life is, it’s pretty dang important to indulge your senses once in a while and walk on the finer side of things.
So whether you want to treat yourself to a tasty adult beverage after work or go out for drinks with your girlfriends, this is a list of the very best places to get cocktails in the city. Also, let’s not be sexist, dudes can enjoy a nice muddled fruit drink with the best of them. So yeah, cheers bro.
Cobra
Cobra won Best U.S. Restaurant Bar at the 2026 Spirited Awards, which is about as close as the cocktail industry gets to a national championship. The Brewery District room is an Asian American neighborhood bar, dark and loud, with a drinks list built to run alongside the food rather than upstage it. The late night menu goes until 1:45 a.m., so it’s one of the few kitchens in town still doing real work after midnight. It’s closed Tuesdays.

Denmark on High

This space has a lot of style and personality to it, and so does the service. It definitely conveys a sort of metropolitan business vibe, which makes sense because it’s certainly the kind of place to get drinks with friends after a hard day at the office. It can get a bit busy here at times but their bartenders do a fantastic job of keeping up and staying friendly. Got a friend coming in from out of town and you want to impress them with a place? This is exactly where you’d want to go.

The Alibi

With a focus on bourbon and cocktails, The Alibi is a great place to sneak a cheeky drink after work or meet up with friends for a fun night out. With its lounge atmosphere and killer cocktail list, The Alibi is sure to impress even your fanciest friends. The room leans Prohibition-era, and the bourbon selection goes well beyond what the cocktail list alone requires. The same team opened a second bar, Proof by the Alibi, in Old North in April 2026.

Buckeye Bourbon House

Actual wooden barrels decorate this whiskey lounge and cocktail bar. Tall aged ceilings tower directly above as you enjoy your drink and listen to the low hum of conversations buzzing all around you. It’s hard not to marvel at the building’s interior while you sip casually with friends and co-workers. If you’re a whiskey fanatic then you’re in for a treat, they have a huge collection of bourbons and scotches that you can enjoy as a cocktail or just straight.

The Citizens Trust

Of course, the cocktails at The Citizens Trust are divine, but the historic setting and the glamorous interiors are at least half of the fun. If you’re looking for a particularly awesome time of year to visit, stop by when they have their holiday pop-up bar. With themed drinks and decorations from floor to ceiling, you’ll be feeling the holiday spirit by the end of drink no. 1!

Cordial Cocktail Club & Bottle Shop

Cordial Cocktail Club & Bottle Shop, formerly The Bottle Shop, is exactly what you want out of a cocktail bar if you need something a bit more comfortable and low maintenance. Part of the business serves as a carryout, offering bottles of wine and the usual snacks you’d find in a convenience store. The bar side serves up some amazing cocktails without the expense you’d usually pay at a more upscale establishment. More than anything, the atmosphere is inviting and not stiff at all, perfect for letting your hair down and cutting loose.

Law Bird
Food & Wine named Law Bird one of the ten best bars in the country in 2025, the same year it turned up as a James Beard semifinalist for Outstanding Bar. Annie Williams Pierce and Luke Pierce run it as a cocktail and wine bar that rebuilds its menu, and sometimes the decor, around a new theme. One past list came printed inside a Trapper Keeper. It’s closed Mondays, and the rest of the week it stays open late enough to be a real after-dinner option.
