German Village is getting ready to glow again.
Village Lights, presented by OhioHealth, returns this Sunday, December 7 from 5 to 9 PM, and it remains one of the most charming holiday traditions in Columbus.
Thousands of luminarias will line the brick streets, shops and restaurants will stay open late, and the whole neighborhood will feel like a charming little snow globe, even if the weather refuses to play along.
This is the kind of event that invites you to take it slow.

Wander the streets. Pop into a few shops. Grab something warm to sip. Listen for the choirs floating through the air near St. Mary. Watch kids lose their minds over reindeer. Fill your tote with locally made gifts. German Village does cozy better than almost anywhere, and Village Lights is the neighborhood at its best.
You will find plenty to do even if you stick to the main corridors. The Book Loft will have holiday cheer and live music. The German Village Society Meeting Haus has drinks, treats, and performances from Opera Columbus. The Farmers Market is hosting a Winter Bauernmarkt with food trucks and local vendors. Schiller Rec Center is home to nearly 100 makers at Not Your Mama’s Craft Market. And if you want something sweet, hot, or both, you will not have to look far.
There is also no shortage of festive extras.

Choirs will be performing throughout the evening at St. Mary. Shops like 3rd & Sycamore, The Red Stable, Urban Sundry, and Cento Italiano are staying open late. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making more than one appearance. Even the spas, salons, and real estate offices are getting in on the fun with treats, activities, and warm drinks.
Parking and Practical Stuff
Keeping it real for a moment. Parking can get tricky, so here is what to know:
- Free parking is available in the open lot at Bank Street and Sycamore, provided by Grange.
- Paid parking is available at Stewart Alternative Elementary for ten dollars, with proceeds going to the PTO.
- Public restrooms are available at the Meeting Haus and the Schiller Community Recreation Center.
- There is no shuttle this year, so plan accordingly.
Whether you are shopping for gifts, soaking up the lights, or simply looking for an excuse to stroll through one of Columbus’s most beautiful neighborhoods at its most beautiful time of year, Village Lights is a must. Grab your gloves, grab a friend, and walk right into the holiday season.
