Otherworld is set to go from huge to enormous.
The massive art and technology installation opened back in 2019 already had a lot of space. 32,000 square feet of space, to be exact. Now, Otherworld Ohio will be taking over a 26,000 square foot space next door.
The expansion will allow more artists, more room to expand the installation, and a 2,000 person music venue. Otherworld was becoming a popular music venue for smaller shows before the pandemic hit. This additional space will allow them to build upon that audience they’ve already built while making room for more.
Otherworld shared the announcement on social media on Wednesday evening.
“It’s happening! 🎉 Thanks to all your support, Otherworld Ohio is breaking ground on an additional 26,000 square feet next door. That means more artists, more rooms to explore, and an art & tech infused, 2,000-person music venue,” Otherworld said in a Facebook post.
The first part of the expansion will add 10,000 square feet of new rooms to explore, along with the concert space. According to Columbus Alive, the new area is set to open in the first quarter of 2022.
Otherworld is currently open with COVID-19 procedures in place. All tickets are online only and timed to minimize wait times and limit attendances so that guests can practice proper physical distancing. The staff at Otherworld has also increased surface cleaning and added sanitizing stations and masks are required when visiting.
While the new area is being built out, Otherworld will continue to host concerts in the preexisting space. They are now booking talent for October. For more info about planning your visit to Otherworld, you can visit their website here.
